On 15 June 2017, the Tidal Energy Forum, organized by SBOPC and PNOC Renewables Corporation, was conducted in the PNOC Mini Theatre in Taguig City, Philippines. Representatives from the academe, private sector, government and financing institutions were present during the event. The forum was able to provide a venue for the stakeholders to hear from the experts and industry leaders about tidal energy and was able to give updates on its development. Dr. Villanoy of the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute gave a background on ocean renewable energy and tidal energy resources. He also explained the advantages of the Tidal In-Stream Energy Conversion (TISEC) technology in the Philippines. Representatives from SABELLA discussed the project development strategies for TISEC and the opportunities of the technology for ASEAN archipelagic countries. Engr. Ulgado, Chief of the Hydropower and Ocean Management Division of the Department of Energy, presented the National Renewable Energy Program (NREP) and its Renewable Energy Targets up to 2030.
